Viepatte began with a simple belief: pets deserve more than a place to stay. They deserve a space that feels considered, comforting, and naturally part of the way we live.
We design pet houses as small pieces of architecture — familiar forms that give an animal privacy and shelter while still belonging beside the people who care for them.
A letter from our founder
I did not begin Viepatte with a trend forecast. I began by watching three companions move through an ordinary home.
Yuki, our dog, liked to be close to family life but still searched for a defined place to settle. Kiki, one of our cats, treated every threshold as a lookout: near enough to observe, quiet enough to retreat. Niko reminded us that comfort is personal. The same animal can want openness in the morning, shade at midday, and a protected corner at night.
Their habits changed the question. Instead of asking, “Where can we put a pet product?” we began asking, “What kind of place would a pet choose — and would we be happy to live beside it?”
That question became Viepatte.
Our work is still guided by those first observations: offer shelter without isolation, access without confusion, and materials that can be cared for rather than disguised. We want every piece to feel calm in the home and recognizable to the animal using it.

Meet Yuki, Kiki & Niko
Yuki — the close companion.
Yuki taught us that a pet house should not push an animal away from family life. Porches, open entries, and familiar rooflines create a place to pause while remaining connected to what is happening nearby.
Kiki — the careful observer.
Kiki inspired our attention to thresholds, sightlines, and the choice between retreat and observation. A well-considered opening can be as important as the room behind it.
Niko — the comfort individualist.
Niko reminds us not to design around a single pose or habit. Pets move, stretch, watch, hide, and return. Their space should support more than one kind of quiet moment.

Sheltered comfort
A defined interior supports rest, privacy, and a sense of retreat.
Thoughtful access
Entrances, raised floors, porches, and open areas should feel clear and inviting to the animal using them.
Made to belong
Pet furniture should sit naturally beside the home. Calm proportions, familiar architecture, and restrained finishes help each piece feel intentional.
Honest materials
We describe construction, care, and placement using the information available for each product. We avoid unsupported environmental or performance claims.
Why cedar pet furniture
Wood gives pet furniture the warmth and visual familiarity of a small structure rather than a temporary accessory. Cedar allows us to work with architectural panels, raised bases, framed openings, and roof forms that are easy to understand and maintain. Like all natural wood used outdoors, it benefits from thoughtful placement, routine care, and protection during severe weather.
Our first chapter — WINKIE and beyond
WINKIE L7 introduced Viepatte’s idea of a room within the shared home: a sheltered interior, raised porch, window, awning, and side platform that let a pet move between retreat and observation. The Outdoor Cedar Dog House and Outdoor Cedar Cat House continue that story with simpler footprints for patios, porches, and sheltered garden spaces.
What we are building
Viepatte is operated by Lumicedar LLC in Sheridan, Wyoming. We are building a focused collection of pet houses, cushions, and companion pieces shaped by daily observation, clear product information, responsible customer support, and designs intended to live with a household over time.
We are not simply making somewhere for a pet to stay. We are designing a place for them to belong.
